The Origin Story
Driven by solar industry professionals with an inside understanding of all stakeholder issues
During a break from an intense executive meeting on cost overruns at a client’s utility-scale solar construction site, two solar energy professionals, working for a leading renewable energy company, get talking. As they chat, both note how similar their work challenges are despite being in very different business units—one overseeing hundreds of small solar sites across developed and developing regions while the other working on utility-scale projects in developed countries.
The peers recognize that the main issue is poor data availability and integration around solar assets and processes. There is no solution on the market to enable efficient access, management, or analysis of data and processes for faster decision making.
An idea begins to take shape.
The pair begin developing software tools for data access and analysis, running a series of pilot implementations across big and small sites. Once sure of the value the solution creates for clients, they register a company, SenseHawk Inc, in California. Three months on, they get a round of institutional funding and four months later, a beta version of the solution is released with five customers. The company grows rapidly, building out what is now the Solar Digitization Platform (SDP), fuelled by client needs, more funding, and continuous enhancements.
Today, SenseHawk has an 80+ team, two global development centers, and provides platform-based digitization SaaS globally for the solar asset lifecycle.
