SenseHawk’s Therm and Drone Analytics solutions help an EPC remediate defects for each completed stage of its under-construction utility-scale project.
At a Glance
A global solar EPC and O&M services provider deploys the SenseHawk’s TaskMapper Solar platform to digitize all the processes involved in the construction of a 285 MW solar site.
All available site and project data, files, teams, and the project schedule is onboarded to TaskMapper to enable centralized management and monitoring of onsite activities.
Deploying TaskMapper and digitizing the information flows for construction activities results in improved transparency and process-oriented project execution.
The Need
A solar EPC is set to begin the construction of a 285 MW solar project spread across nearly 900 acres. Understanding that increased digitization will reduce human effort on time-consuming manual progress tracking and report generation and enable efficient communication and coordination among different teams, the company approaches SenseHawk.
TaskMapper, SenseHawk’s unified platform for solar, enables end-to-end digitization of processes, simplifying lifecycle management for assets. Design ground-up to automate, optimize, and simplify project management; the platform helps accelerate solar installations and streamline maintenance and operations.
The Solution
All project data, including terrain and land use data, CAD files, plans, files, and teams, is onboarded to the TaskMapper platform. System models help create a digital twin of the site. This allows all incoming project data to be organized and associated with the digital twins of components, building up a record of component installation, location, hierarchy, interlinkage, serial number, make and model, maintenance history, related tasks, forms, and more.
The client uses TaskMapper to import the project schedule to centralize work management. Work breakdowns are shared with the teams to streamline communication and enhance collaboration to achieve first-time-right installation. Connecting the schedule to the CAD on a map, inventory, and tasks helps teams visualize critical paths and dependencies to keep delivery on track.
The various stakeholders, from the owner and EPC to engineers and contractors, configure dashboards to track important metrics they want to keep in view. Work management and monitoring are simplified with digitized tasks that include relevant details such as checklists, forms, files, subtasks, dependencies, and more. Workflows for RFIs, progress tracking, daily reporting, form submission, quality control, inspections, etc. are automated for efficiency.
Site managers and their crews stay connected using the fieldworker app. Technicians can access their assigned tasks, navigate directly to the location, and create real-time updates from the field for roll-up reporting. Periodic drone scan survey data is used to visualize planned versus actual work progress. The map-powered web and mobile interfaces simplify user interactions and standardize the viewing and tracking of assets.
Color-coded, map-based view of construction progress for easy status tracking; fieldworker app for easy site navigation, creating updates, and access to in-time information
The Impact
For this project, TaskMapper helps automate three key onsite processes for the EPC:
Construction progress tracking based on daily field reports
Using the fieldworker app, onsite engineers are able to manually record the completion of activities each day. Data updates from the field enable up-to-date reporting for stakeholders. The status of various construction activities is visualized as color-coded items on a map for easy progress tracking at a level of granularity that is customizable as per their requirements.
An intuitive, map-based interface with almost no learning curve that helps visualize work progress based on updates from the field
Data capture by field teams using digital forms to track inventory usage and availability
Apart from the daily activity progress, field teams use digital forms to track resources, payment schedules, and inventory. Hindrances and potential issues, if any, are tracked and addressed immediately. Templatized forms and checklists are added to workflows and tasks and monitored. Alerts and email notifications are configured for timely action.
Customizable digital forms to standardize processes, structure data capture and automate workflows
Digitization of ongoing quality checks and redressal workflows for quality teams
Quality control workflows are included as a final step in each monitoring workflow to ensure periodic checks and reduce rework.
Setting quality workflow rules using custom digital forms to automate the monitoring and review processes
Construction management with TaskMapper enables efficient collaboration among the various teams. The platform provides clear visibility into the ground realities at project sites. Based on data insights, stakeholders can continuously streamline processes and workflows to keep costs down, boost team productivity, and achieve on-time delivery.
